My latest flash fiction tale appears on Mysti Parker's website starting today. I'm excited. I've been holding my stories "in my lap" too long when I prefer them out in the world where they can visit readers around the globe.

Leaping from my last entry to this one, rushing through snow showers during my morning errands, a rare element this soon-ending winter, very aware that life waits for no one. Seems like the year just started and tomorrow begins month three. No complaints. I've been busy composing poetry and short stories, delighting in the fast-paced changes I am privileged to watch in my two grandchildren, and recovering from a knee injury. My music playing took a hit, but remains a great balance to the rest of my life.
Just last week, another flash fiction story received an award at WritersType.com. I'm excited because I had a lot of fun creating that story last year and I like my revision a lot. Each story I write and revise encourages me to keep writing as well as teaching me what trips up readers and what enhances a story line. About the story: Barkers Best Headache CureA headache cure Maggie had previously taken with no ill-effects suddenly generates surreal circumstances -- are they real or a total hallucination? The first landed as the winning short story entry for the month of March at WritersType. The second appears at WOW-Women On Writing website with a third place finish for the Winter 2011 Flash Fiction contest. I was interviewed for that last win and my interview is now live on the WOW ezine, The Muffin (http://muffin.wow-womenonwriting.com/2011/06/judy-beason-third-place-winner-winter.html). A writer can learn a lot about their muse by completing an interview. I certainly did.
Beyond my clearest perception, obstacles appear daunting. They are mountains beyond my reach. My life, my work, my day, my being belong closer where clarity frees my steps. I follow my path, guided by an inner confidence that my journey is not beyond my capability.
The blossoms on the trees almost beat the daffodils this year. Our cool, wet winter dragged its heels, holding on until the end of March before our first 60 degree day in Portland, Oregon. Now the daffodils flourish, the robins are nesting and the grass needs weekly mowing.
I love this state for the variety of terrain, fauna and critters found at all elevations. The weather is but one cog in the wheel that keeps this state rolling. On any given day, I can touch my toes in the ocean then head for high country to kick some snow. The forests bring peace and help clean the air. Nearer to home, parks are plentiful and walks a delight. Spring is here and life is good. A late winter greeting arrived overnight, greeting all with crisp, vanilla peace - unless you absolutely had to drive to work. Schools cancelled classes in favor of safety. By eleven AM, the grass won, while snow transformed into cool moisture. Perhaps more will arrive later today.
